The Basic Sciences Committee will continue the work of the Basic Science Community Task Force and the Science Education Subcommittee of the Council on Education. This committee will provide an important forum for discussion and should be viewed by the Basic Science Community as their voice in the day to day operation of the society.

Specific Responsibilities:
- Represent and thereby increase the visibility of basic scientists within the AES, and to promote interactions between basic and clinical epileptologists within the Society. Advise the Annual Meeting Committee, Scientific Program Committee and Council on Education on the basic science content of the Annual Meeting and AES-sponsored year-round education. Chair and selected members will serve as members and liaisons on these committees.
- Evaluate any unmet needs of the basic science community within the AES and make recommendations to the AES Board on how these needs can be met. [Pursuing AxDev Needs Assessment of Basic Scientists in 2007.]
- Evaluate the services and programs currently provided by the AES for its basic science membership and make recommendations to the Board on how these may be improved.
