What other medical problems do people with epilepsy have?
It is relatively common for people with epilepsy to become depressed. This may be due to the epilepsy itself or may be a medical problem that co-exists with the epilepsy but is really a separate problem. In any case, treating the depression can be as important as treating the epilepsy.
Many people with epilepsy also complain of problems with memory. Once again, this can be related to the seizures, to the underlying brain trauma that caused the seizures, or even to the medicine used to treat the seizures. It is best to talk about this with your doctor if it happens so that both you and your doctor can try to determine what is causing the memory problem and how best to deal with it.
